Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch Program:

The community leader, the Chlorakas Community Council, and the Cyprus Police invite all residents to participate in the “Neighborhood Watch Program,” a crime prevention strategy

  • where citizens observe and inform the police about unusual/suspicious/criminal activities occurring in their area.
  • where the Neighborhood Police Officer advises citizens on crime prevention techniques such as:
    • how to make your homes and properties less attractive to criminals
    • how to stay alert for suspicious/criminal activities in your area
  • where the Police do not encourage citizens to take the law into their own hands
  • where the Police do not ask anyone to risk their lives to prevent crime

LEAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ARRESTING CRIMINALS WHERE IT BELONGS, THAT IS, WITH THE POLICE

The Role of Neighborhood Watch Members: As Neighborhood Watch Members, you are encouraged to stay alert. You are the eyes and ears of the police, who cannot be present in every corner, day and night.

The Role of the Coordinator: The Coordinator is the link between the police and neighborhood watch members. Some of the coordinator’s responsibilities include:

  • Organizing meetings of the Neighborhood Watch members
  • Frequent contact with the police/Neighborhood Police Officer
  • Promoting actions that strengthen the program
  • Recruiting new Neighborhood Watch members
