Former Community Leaders

Local self-government, both during the years of Turkish rule and during British rule, was almost nonexistent. From ancient times, the mukhtars (local leaders) at the head of the Village Authorities, along with the elders (azades), took care of the administration of the communities. These local committees were appointed by the Government and served without pay. In 1979, the first elections were held to elect Village Committees. Below, we mention some of the community leaders (koinotarxes) of Chloraka, from the beginning of the last century until today.
