Chloraka

History – Geography

Chloraka is one of the first villages in Cyprus to implement a land consolidation program. The program, completed in 1974, covered an area of 195 hectares irrigated by the Mavrokolympos dam. After its connection with the Paphos irrigation project, the area of Chloraka is now mainly irrigated by this system. According to the 1985 agricultural census, 101 hectares of land were irrigated in Chloraka.

Chloraka-Salamina Twinning

Decisions have been made by the plenary sessions of the local authorities of Chloraka and the municipality of Salamis to establish a sister city relationship. They share a common bond through the legendary Salaminian captain Evangelos Loukas Koutalianos, who transported arms for Cyprus’ liberation struggle between 1955-59 using the ships “SIREN” and “AG. GEORGIOS.” The twinning ceremony will first take place in Chloraka and then in Salamis.
